Follow the design guidelines
When designing the vehicle crossing and preparing your site plan you must follow our vehicle crossing design guidelines.
Prepare your documents
When submitting your application, attach the following documents.
A fully scaled dimensional plan of the proposed vehicle crossing.
Include:
- vehicle crossing width
- width of splays each side (standard 1.3m straight splays)
- distance from:
- both boundaries
- neighbouring vehicle crossings.
- location and distance from
- street trees
- any 'significant' trees including significant onsite or neighbour's trees within 2 metres
- pits, power poles, drains, etc.
- dimensions of garage, carport and parking spaces
- distance and width of setback to garage, carport and parking spaces
- number of onsite parking spaces.
The plan must include details about traffic management for pedestrians and vehicles during the construction, pour, and setting of your vehicle crossing.
The plan should align with the Road Management Act 2004 Worksite Safety – Traffic Management Code of Practice (2010) and relevant Work Safe guidelines.
You must have public liability insurance to construct a vehicle crossing. The cover must have a minimum of $20m.
Submit your application
Submit the completed application form(PDF, 101KB) with your required documents:
After receiving your application we’ll send you an invoice for the application fee.
Review and approval
Our team will review your application and assess the site.
We’ll email you within 15 days to let you know the decision or to raise any concerns.
We may ask for more information or request changes to your plans. For example, your vehicle crossing might need to be further away from trees or other assets.
When approved, we’ll send your permit by email.
We won't approve a permit if you want to:
- remove or transplant an established (significant) tree
- modify or build an existing drainage pit or any other service authority pits or valve covers
- remove 2 or more on-street parking spaces
- do works that affect a public asset, such as a power pole, without approval from the relevant authority
- construct a new crossing within 10 metres of an intersection or 5 metres from a laneway.
Book a pre-pour inspection
Before you pour the concrete, we must inspect the site. The result of the inspection must meet our guidelines before the pour can begin.
Please reach out to book a pre-pour inspection.
As the permit holder, you are responsible for all works undertaken by your contractor.
Begin construction
Please ensure you use qualified contractors to construct your vehicle crossing.
Final inspection
We inspect the vehicle crossing to make sure the construction meets the correct standards. Ensure you or your contractor contacts us within 14 days of work being completed.
