Building Plan searches

Old plans can be very useful to architects, draftspersons and engineers for designing alterations or ascertaining the loads possible to be sustained by older buildings. They may also be of historical interest to owners.

You can apply to request documents from Council through our eServices portal and we’ll conduct a plan search for you.

Apply for Building Plan search through eServices

You can also apply by downloading, completing and submitting the Building Plan search application form(DOC, 2MB).

What kind of documents can I apply for?

The type of documents that may be available include:

  • Architectural and structural plans
  • Computations
  • Building permits
  • Occupancy Permits and Certificates of Final Inspection

How do I apply for a plan search?

To apply for a plan search you must be the current owner of the property.

You can be an agent of the owner, but in that case the application must be accompanied by written consent from the current owner of the land (purchase settlement must have been completed).

If your property has an owners’ corporation you must provide signed authorisation from that body.

A person acting on behalf of the owners’ corporation (such as a manager) must provide signed written authorisation on owners’ corporation letterhead.

Can you guarantee that you’ll find the plan I’m looking for?

We’ll make every effort to locate the information you’re after, but we can’t guarantee that documentation will be available.

Fees

There’s a non-refundable application fee that covers the search:

  • Permit or certificate: $52.10
  • Design detail (dwelling): $208
  • Apartments: $306.80
  • Design detail (multi-unit/commercial): $436.80
