Fitzgerald Street parklet

We're doing things different this year to #supportlocal

In March 2021, Fitzgerald Street between Chapel Street and Tillet Lane was closed to traffic, and cars were replaced with pop-up gardens, lots of greenery, colourful furniture and shade. The transformation created a place for locals to chat and chill.

The project is part of our plan to increase public space and encourage people to get out and enjoy the many experiences Stonnington has to offer, in a safe and social setting.

The Art

A wonderful feature of the Fitzgerald Street parklet will be an eye-catching mural painted on the road at the Chapel Street entrance to the green space.

The striking entry statement will be the work of the talented artists from Arts Project Australia.

Arts Project Australia is a creative social enterprise that supports artists with intellectual disabilities, promotes their work and advocates for their inclusion in contemporary art.

We were delighted to engage the talents of Arts Project Australia to add that extra special touch to this inviting green space in the heart of the iconic Chapel Street precinct.

To view a selection of their work visit the Arts Project website.

Traffic management

Last March 2021, Fitzgerald Street between Chapel Street and Tillet Lane was be closed to traffic.

During this time, traffic management measures will be in place to allow local access to Davison Place, Tillet Lane, Rocky Lane and St Josephs Church.
