Junior Try Rugby Day 2025 – Free Rugby Clinic

Junior Try Rugby Day at Orrong Romanis Reserve, a free clinic for current and new players aged U5-U12. This is a great opportunity for kids to learn the fundamentals of Rugby Union in a fun and inclusive environment.

What to expect

fun team games – engaging activities that build teamwork and confidence
basic passing, catching – learn the fundamental skills of rugby
correct tackle technique – safe and effective tackling instruction
non-contact rugby games – a great introduction to the sport for beginners

What to bring

sunscreen and a hat
runners (strictly no footy boots)
water bottle

Cost

No fees for this session.

Depending on the age of the participant, the full season fees will vary. You can find out more on their website.

We are also partnered with Team Sports 4 All, which if you are eligible (have a health care card, live in government housing or are of asylum seeker status) can pay for your seasonal registration fees.

Melbourne Rugby Club, home of the Mighty Unicorns, runs a family-oriented Junior Program designed to create lifelong rugby fans and future players. Our modified kids' rugby format focuses on fun, safety, and skill development, helping young players build confidence on and off the field.

The Melbourne Rugby Union Football Club is at the heart of Victorian Senior and Junior Club Rugby.

We are well represented in State Representative sides at all levels and had two players from our Women’s team represent Australia in the Wallaroos at the 2014 World Cup.

We have some of the best facilities and off-field support of all Victorian Clubs. Melbourne Rugby Club is the perfect choice if you want to play serious rugby and have a great time doing it. New senior and junior players are always welcome. If you are in the area, please visit us and have a look around.

If you are new in town, we are happy to help you to find your feet. The Unicorn’s home ground is at Orrong Park, just over the road from the club house and adjacent to Toorak Station.
