Council is aware of information on social media claiming a confirmed case of Cryptosporidiosis from a user at the Harold Holt Swim Centre. We want to assure our community that there have been no confirmed cases at either the Harold Holt Swim Centre or Prahran Aquatic Centre.
A confirmed case of Cryptosporidiosis requires notification from a doctor to the Department of Health, which then informs the Council if a swimming pool is implicated. No such reports have been received by Council. Cryptosporidium is a resilient germ that can spread through contaminated water by infected swimmers. If a confirmed case is identified emanating from a Council operated swimming pool, immediate action is taken, including pool closure and water treatment, to prevent further spread.
Our aquatic facilities undergo monthly microbiological testing, with the latest results from the week of May 14th being clear.
If a case is linked to our facilities, we will promptly inform the community and close the affected spaces for treatment.
If you are experiencing symptoms of Cryptosporidiosis, such as diarrhea, please visit your GP.
