City Nature Challenge 2025

From 25-28 April, we’re teaming up with Greater Melbourne councils to take part in the City Nature Challenge 2025.

During this four-day global citizen science event, join cities around the world to share any observations of wild plants, animals, insects or fungi using iNaturalist.

How to participate:

  • download the free iNaturalist app and create an account
  • explore your backyard, street or local park to find, photograph and share your nature observations and contribute important data to biodiversity research.

Twilight Nature Discovery Tour

Join us for a Twilight Nature Discovery Tour as part of the 2025 City Nature Challenge.

This immersive event offers a rare glimpse into some of the smallest creatures that come alive in our city after dark.

Activities include:

  • a guided twilight walk through the beautiful bushland landscape of the Malvern Valley golf course
  • moth and insect spot lighting sessions with entomologist Dr Luis Mata.

What to bring:

  • a smartphone or camera to make observations using the iNaturalist app
  • comfortable walking shoes and weather-appropriate clothing
  • a torch or headlamp.

We encourage you to download the free iNaturalist app before the event and create a free account to get ready to start exploring.
