We understand that digital content and communications can be a barrier for many community members, including people with disability, to accessing essential information. We recently installed a new tool that will improve the accessibility of our website so that our community can access the information they need, when and where they need it most.
What is UserWay?
UserWay is a digital accessibility tool that allows users to access website content in a way that meets their individual needs. Users are able to adjust the way content is displayed or consumed, allowing for a more accessible and user-friendly experience.
What are the benefits of UserWay?
This tool will support people with disability and accessibility needs to engage with Stonnington programs, services and community feedback activities.
The UserWay tool provides:
- screen reader technology
- options to enlarge text and cursor
- options to change the contrast on a page
- the ability to modify text spacing and format to improve readability including dyslexic-friendly font
- other functions such as the option to hide images, highlight links and pause animations.
How do I access UserWay?
UserWay is now installed on the City of Stonnington, Stonnington Libraries, Active Stonnington and Connect Stonnington websites.
When visiting these websites, you will find a blue person icon on the bottom left of the screen. Click on the icon to view or enable the tool's features.
What else are we doing to improve accessibility?
The UserWay tool reflects our vision to provide a user experience that is adaptable to the needs of our residents, owners, workers and visitors.
This upgrade is part of a larger project around digital inclusion that we are working on, including:
- improving readability for all language abilities
- reducing accessibility issues on website for those who require assistive technology
- making PDFs more accessible.
