Commonwealth Government Aged Care Reforms

In July 2017, the Australian Government commenced aged care reforms. The roll-out of reforms was delayed by the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and the COVID-19 pandemic. Aged care reforms will increase competition and provide consumers with choice and control in the delivery of their aged care services.

In May 2023, the Federal Government announced it would delay reform implementation from 1 July 2024 to 1 July 2025 to provide time to refine the new Support at Home Program. The Support at Home Program will combine the Commonwealth Home Support Programme, Home Care Packages and Short-term Restorative Care.

On 28 November 2023, reform implementation was further delayed from 1 July 2025 until 1 July 2027.
