Termites (sometimes called white ants) are part of the natural environment.
But they can badly damage timber structures.
Councils can assign areas where termites are likely to attack buildings.
Except for minor structures, any new building work in an area at risk of infestation must use special measures to resist termite attack.
The Stonnington area is not currently considered at risk of termites. Yet, they may still damage structures in the district.
Homeowners and buyers should be aware of the risks.
If you want to buy a house in the area, you should get a professional to check the building for termites.
The cost of the report is very small compared to termite damage repair.

Reporting termite activity
While we don’t treat termites directly, we want to know about them and monitor them.
You can make a confidential termite report to Council by calling 03 8290 1333 or emailing council@stonnington.vic.gov.au
