Railway Stories podcast – a must for Stonnington train commuters

Every train ride tells a story. And at Stonnington we love telling stories through our love of art and through our support of creative, innovative and immersive projects like the Railway Stories podcast series.

Railway Stories can be listened to as you pass through specific areas while on your train journey and provide passengers (and tourists) with a unique way to experience Stonnington (and greater Melbourne), with some mesmerising art along the way, all via a podcast. And you don’t even need to get off your stop to enjoy it or visit a gallery.

Through this fascinating audio recordings initiative, you will see, hear and experience your way through our city in a new, vibrant and exciting way while you travel by train via the Frankston, Pakenham, Cranbourne, Glen Waverley and Sandringham lines. Learn about the amazing shopping in High Street, Armadale, the history of tennis at Kooyong, caring for biodiversity, our native plants, birds and animals at Gardiners Creek and stunning sculptural art at Gardiner Station, Glen Iris.

While making your way along the Glen Waverley line and listening to the podcast, you can learn about Apparatus for Transtemporal Relocations of Impending Space, by artist Russell Anderson, which is part of Stonnington’s Public Art Collection. This artwork, displayed at Gardiner Station, Glen iris, pays homage to the steampunk genre with hints of art deco architecture. Part of the artist’s Imagined History series, this artwork has some truth and a little fantasy.

Completed in 2016, this striking, imaginative playful piece is made of stainless steel, copper, cast bronze, tram switch gear, original signal boxes, mechatronic electronics and LEDs.
