Public Statement

Correction:  dog off-leash exercise area – Gardiners Creek (Kooyongkoot) Master Plan

The City of Stonnington Chief Executive Officer, Mr Dale Dickson PSM, wishes to confirm that no proposal to change the current dog off-leash status of Tooronga Park is included in the Gardiners Creek (Kooyongkoot) Master Plan.

An FAQ section of Council’s Connect Stonnington webpage, relating to the master plan’s consultation, incorrectly stated that dogs would only be allowed in the park while on a leash, following the Park’s proposed redevelopment.

After investigating the matter, the Council can confirm that an administrative error occurred and Mr Dickson PSM apologises to the community for the error. The incorrect information has now been removed from the website's FAQ section.

This information was incorrectly communicated on the Connect Stonnington website only, and was not part of the endorsed Master Plan, current consultation material, or other council-endorsed proposals.

Tooronga Park is currently classified as a dog off-leash park, and the Council reiterates that there is no proposal to change its on-leash / off-leash status.

The Gardiners Creek (Kooyongkoot) Master Plan sets the vision for revitalising the Gardiners Creek corridor. Community consultation is an important part of the project, giving local residents and visitors the opportunity to provide their feedback on elements of the concept design.

Feedback will help Stonnington deliver improvements to reinvigorate the area and enhance active and passive recreation opportunities.
