The City of Stonnington has received several queries from the community, following misinformation provided to the media on 24 September about parking on Chapel Street.

Some media reports have incorrectly stated that Council will remove parking spots on Chapel Street and replace them with bike lanes and tram stops.

The City of Stonnington recently undertook community engagement for the development of a Parking Action Plan.

Some strong themes emerged throughout the community consultation process, including parking in the Chapel Street precinct. Chapel Street has about 400 on-street car parking spaces and about 5,600 publicly accessible off-street parking spaces within walking distance.

While our community told us that convenient parking is a priority, sustainable and enjoyable pedestrian, cycling and public transport options is also a high priority.

The City of Stonnington is reviewing the feedback and submissions received throughout the consultation phase, which will be used to develop a draft Parking Action Plan. This Plan will be presented to the community for further consultation, following Council endorsement, in coming months.
