Chapel Off Chapel, Stonnington’s home of live, intimate and iconic performances, continues to keep you entertained all summer long.

After the resounding success of its ‘In Concert’ development showing at The Butterfly Club (in March 2024), Fresno is having its official debut at our very own Chapel Off Chapel.

Fresno, set in a traditional Irish American bar, explores the life of a young bartender named JJ and the network of friends, bar regulars and found family that surround him.

It tackles the many issues faced by young people in society today such as the cost-of-living crisis, alcoholism and effects of gentrification.

This clever and creative musical theatre piece is based in Fresno, California, but written with distinctly Australian humour, which undercuts the idealisations of the American dream and reinforces the Aussie love for an underdog.

The music featured is written with a classic musical theatre feel and reminiscent of old school story driver songs rather than clunky interludes shoehorned in – doing little for the narrative.

Fresno is an exciting, fresh Australian work written by Josh Connell, Jeremy Harland and James Greaves and best described as a ‘Cheers musical written in the style of Come from Away'.

Come and see it for yourself!
