Celebrating new community artworks

We've added to our already extensive collection of contemporary artworks with nine stunning new pieces recently acquired for the Stonnington community to enjoy.

The new works were selected based on their cultural value to our community and deliver on our commitment to supporting emerging and established artists. They include a mix of sculpture, prints and photography by local, international and First Nations artists. 

From this new collection, you can view Michael Cook’s Fake (Salt Lake) at Malvern Library now. Our libraries are not only places for books and reading, but also cultural hubs where our community comes together to connect and learn.

Salt Lake (pictured) is from Michael’s iconic Fake series; a series that follows a fictional First Nations family with an adopted non-Indigenous child in remote Australia, where nothing is as it seems. As a child, Cook was adopted by a non-Indigenous family and this series, shot in remote locations across the central Australian desert, can be viewed as a fictionalised version of his childhood.
