St. Joseph’s Outreach Services Inc. (SJOS) was established in 1998 as St Joseph’s South Yarra Emergency Housing Association by individuals concerned about the welfare of the vulnerable, marginalised and disadvantaged.

The SJOS mission is to relieve and prevent the effects of poverty in the community, and find ways to support emergency housing accommodation.

In 2002, the committee saw the opportunity to utilise an old school building, creating a centre for emergency housing.

SJOS has established 12 fully furnished self-contained units, 1 crisis shelter, a Food Store, a Bread Bank and a Community Garden, all to support the community’s emergency relief needs.
