New Eastern Arts Association/Chinese Music Band
New Eastern Arts Association/Chinese Music Band is one of the most prominent Chinese music groups in Melbourne. Founded in 2009, we bring Chinese traditional music to Australian society, teach students traditional Chinese music instruments, and connect traditional Chinese music lovers. Mainly composed of non-professional musicians, the band features a variety of traditional Chinese instruments, including Erhu, Sanxian (strings), Pipa, Guzheng, Ruan (plucked strings), bamboo flute, Suona (woodwind), and drum (percussion).
Since our establishment we have hosted eight “Sound of the East” music performances on stage. Our band member and students have performed on various stages such as the Chinese International Art Festival concert at Melbourne Town Hall, and the 20-year anniversary celebrations of Chinese overseas students in Australia held at Crown Casino. We have been invited to perform in over 100 shows and concerts hosted by other community groups and organisations including the Chinese Consulate and Chinese Australian Federation. Our performances are widely acclaimed by the community.
