JoCare Caring for Neighbours

JoCare aims to reduce loneliness and isolation, in local Stonnnington areas, especially for older and vulnerable people. We are an inclusive organisation, seeking to support and engage with residents of Stonnington.

Rays of sunshine are brought into the lives of residents through volunteers providing companionship. JoCare recruits and trains volunteers and seeks to match them with a suitable resident for a regular weekly or fortnightly visit. Volunteers are provided with continual support throughout their volunteering with JoCare.

Our free visiting service is available to people living independently at home or in Aged Care facilities in Stonnington and nearby areas. Referrals for visits come from health professionals and local residents.

JoCare is an auspice of the Australian Government's Aged Care Volunteer Visitors Scheme (ACVVS). Under this scheme, volunteers visit people who receive government-funded residential aged care services or a home care package.

Private funding from Cabrini Australia and philanthropic organisations, provides the resources for volunteers to visit people who are not receiving government funding for residential or home care support.

We also run a digital program that empowers older residents to better use technology, smartphones, tablets and computers. Regular drop-in sessions are held at various locations in Stonnington. Volunteer digital mentors provide this valuable service. This service is supported by the Stonnington Council.
