Stonnington Disability and Access Committee
The Stonnington Disability and Access Committee (SDAC) provides advice and expertise on how Council can improve access and inclusion in Stonnington. The group also provides feedback on the progress of the City of Stonnington Disability Inclusion Action Plan.
The Disability Inclusion Action Plan 2023-26(PDF, 2MB) outlines Council's commitment to supporting people with disability, and their families and carers, to enjoy wellbeing, dignity, and social independence in Stonnington.
The SDAC has 12 community members who are people with disability, carers, family members or represent a local disability agency. The SDAC meetings are chaired by a Councillor.

Meetings
The committee will meet five times annually in February, May, July, September and November.
Meetings are held online, outside of business hours.
Meeting run for up to 90 minutes.
Appointment term
Committee member appointments will be made for an initial two-year term. Members completing the first two-year term may re-apply for a second and third term, not exceeding a total of six years continuous service before a break of at least one term.
Committee objectives
The objectives of the Committee are to:
- Provide advice and feedback on relevant Council policy, protocol, and programs, including Council’s Disability Inclusion Action Plan.
- Act as a consultative mechanism and advisory panel to broaden consultation with people living with disability in the planning and development of Council and local policy, programs, and services that go directly to access / disability.
- Promote awareness of access and inclusion issues within Council and the wider Stonnington community.
- Identify systemic discrimination and provide advice to Council Officers to assist them to address these issues.
- Suggest ways of effectively engaging people with disability, their families and carers in the community in relevant community services, events, and issues.
- Strengthen understanding, and provide responses to questions from Council, of access and inclusion issues.
- Represent and advocate on behalf of people with disability from our diverse community, including from LGBTIQA+, Aboriginal and/or Torres Strait Islander, and multicultural and multi-faith communities and different age cohorts.
Membership
The Advisory Committee shall comprise of a Councillor, appointed as Chairperson and a maximum of twelve (12) community members who meet at least one of the following categories:
