The City of Stonnington is renovating the dog off-leash area at Victory Square to create a more durable lawn area. To renovate the parkland we will remove depressions, improve drainage, reduce soil compaction and create a lawn area that will flourish all year round.
We had previously advised the lawn area would be fully reconstructed, which would close the park for at least 16 weeks. Further investigation determined a turf renovation could be used, rather than a full reconstruction, which will close the park for eight weeks – less than half the time needed under the original plan.
The construction phase of the park renovation will take approximately two weeks, with an additional six weeks needed to allow the turf to put down roots and fully establish. During the six-week establishment period the site fencing will remain to protect the park from visitors and dogs and give the new turf time to establish.
We recognise closing the lawn area at Victory Square for eight weeks will be inconvenient. It is critical, however, that all pedestrians and dogs stay off the renovated lawn to give the new turf the best chance to thrive.

August 2024 - Weather delays planned opening
The unusually wet and cold conditions experienced over the past few months has resulted in the turf not establishing as quickly as we had hoped, extending the time we need to keep the park closed.
We now expect the turf to be well established and in a healthy condition by late-October at which time the fencing will come down and the park reopened as a dog off-leash park.
We apologise for this unavoidable delay and thank you for your patience and understanding.

Dog walkers
Victory Square will be unavailable as a dog off-leash area for the duration of the works.
There are off-leash parks nearby, including at Orrong Romanis Reserve on Orrong Road, Toorak and Armadale Reserve on Sutherland Road, Armadale.
