Sir Zelman Cowen all abilities playground

In 2023 we're building a new all abilities playground at Sir Zelman Cowen Park in Kooyong.

The new playground will be an inclusive, accessible play space for children, youth and adults of all abilities and will replace the existing play space.

The new playground will introduce accessible play elements including swings, sand and water play, interactive sculptures and an accessible barbecue, drinking fountain, shelter, toilet facility and lots of trees and garden beds.

A mix of soft and hard surfaces will add interest and custom play and furniture items will make this a unique and attractive place to visit.

Construction of the new playground is planned for mid-2023 and in 2024 we look forward to delivering a new play experience all the community can enjoy.

Consultation

In June 2021, we embarked on a community engagement program where we asked the community, "What your think makes a great place space and what would you want to see in a new accessible playground at Sir Zelman Cowen Park?"

What we heard helped in the development of a draft playground design that we shared in November 2021, this time asking, "Did we get the design right? Is there anything we missed?"

Community input through our engagement programs helps inform the design a fantastic new playground with inclusive play elements, new paths, seating and fencing, an accessible toilet facility plus lots of trees, garden beds and plants.

Thank you to everyone who participated throughout the engagement phase and helped inform the final design.
