Hobson Street pocket park development

We're building a new local park in Hobson Street, South Yarra.

Located at 7 Hobson Street (on the corner of Hobson and Howitt streets) the new park design was informed by consultation feedback from the local community.

Construction of the park is due to start in early-May and, subject to favourable weather, the park should be open in Spring 2021.

15 November 2021

Some section so the Hobson Street pocket park are now open!  The lawn area and garden beds are fenced to allow them to establish, and will be open by mid-December.

August 2021 - Construction update

Construction of the pocket park started in May and are progressing with footpath works nearing completion and work within the main garden area scheduled to start in late-August.

Works are on schedule to be completed by October, which will be followed by a short period when some of the park will remain closed so the lawn and garden beds can establish.

We anticipate the park will be fully operational and open to the public in time for Summer 2021.

April 2021 - Construction start announced

In early-April 2021 a letter and park design plan was sent to surrounding residents advising construction is due to begin in May and be completed by late-2021.

Consultation

In November 2018, the City of Stonnington purchased the 7 Hobson Street, South Yarra for the purpose of building a pocket park.

This purchase aligns with Council's 'Creating Open Space Strategy' which identifies and acts on opportunities to build more open space throughout the municipality - to benefit the health and wellbeing of people who live, work or visit Stonnington.

Community consultation on a draft park design was completed in September 2019, the results of which were considered when developing the final design.
